ABOUT KCM

They shall be like a tree planted by water, sending out its roots by the stream. It shall not fear when heat comes, and its leaves shall stay green; in the year of drought it is not anxious, and it does not cease to bear fruit.
-Jeremiah 17:8
Since 2007 KCM has offered Christ-centered, Scripturally-rooted counseling services in Bakersfield, CA., and nationwide via ecounseling (i.e., FaceTime or Skype) since 2013. We believe people are dichotomous. That means we have two opposing natures – one wants to do its own will – the other wants to do God’s will (see Romans 7:21-25). So when it comes to counseling, it makes sense to use an approach that addresses both natures. KCM has developed a comprehensive, five-fold approach encompassing:
Picture
  • Biblical Wisdom: Not just knowing God's Word, but one's ability to apply it to their life
  • Spiritual Formation: Jesus modeled important disciplines for us to utilize in our own life (i.e., celebration, confession, fasting, prayer, study, submission, worship, and more). Within this modality, our ministers work to assess and integrate specific, Christ-like disciplines to bring about healing and transformation in the lives of our counselees
  • Personality Proclivities: This area focuses on one's belief system (i.e., core beliefs, values, perceptions, view of God/self/others/world), thought processes (e.g., attention/inattention, intuition, perceptions/apperceptions), as well as emotional competencies (e.g., self-awareness, self-regulation, social skills, empathy/sympathy)
  • Developmental Constructs: Here our ministers assess the means by which a person develops their modes of relating with God and others; as well as the means by which they typically cope with the stresses of life (e.g., time/money management, conflict resolution, assertiveness, relaxation, complex problem solving, discerning the will of God, etc.)
  • Disorders: Disruption of normal physical or mental functions (i.e., depression, anxiety, etc.) are assessed, and if found to be present, our ministers integrate an approach that often times involves the formation of a team of various professions (i.e., medical doctors, psychologists, etc.) to bring about effective change and healing

We then integrate our findings in each of these five areas into a comprehensive course of treatment specific to the needs of each counselee; wherein, dysfunctional thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors are brought into alignment with God’s Word. When we live according to our heavenly Father’s Word, we are more apt to live in power, love, and sound-mind (see II Timothy 1:7).

KCM ministers are ordained/licensed and hold graduate-level degrees in their field, they are not licensed psychotherapists. To learn more about the qualifications of our ministers, visit our Bios page.
